Subject: [Call for Works] New York City Electroacoustic Music Festival
Call for Works
The New York City Electroacoustic Music Festival (with the support of
Harvestworks Digital Media Arts Center) invites the submission of works for
various electronic media, including but not limited to the following:
- Works for recorded media alone with up to eight channels
- Works for recorded media and instrumental soloists — works for clarinet,
flute, and small percussion are strongly encouraged; please check the
website frequently for news regarding additional NYCEMF performers.
- Video works
- Works utilizing interactive applications/interfaces including
electroacoustic improvisation, alternative controllers, and new approaches
to sound with other media in performance
In general, works should be no longer than 15 minutes.
All submissions will be accepted through the online submission site:
The deadline for submissions is November 1, 2008. Composers may submit up to
two works for consideration.
Call for Works for Violin and Electronics
A special concert will feature the violinist Mari Kimura (marikimura.com),
who will play works for violin and recorded sounds or interactive
electronics as part of the Music in Midtown Concert Series of the CUNY
Graduate Center (gc.cuny.edu). Composers are encouraged to submit works for
this special event.
Call for Papers
NYCEMF also invites the submission of papers for festival presentation.
Papers may deal with any topic relating to electroacoustic music. Particular
attention will be given to those papers that deal with new musical concepts
made possible by electroacoustic methods, and challenges in helping
listeners understand these ideas. Presentations will be limited to 30
minutes and should include ample time for Q&A.
Call for Curated Concerts
Representatives of studios, organizations, or groups of composers from
outside the United States are invited to submit proposals to present an
entire concert of works from your organization. In this case the program or
music may not exceed one hour, and the proposer will need to make
introductory remarks about the works played. Only the proposers of the
curated concerts will need to attend, but a higher registration fee will be

Composers and artists whose works are selected for presentation at NYCEMF
will be required to attend and to pay a registration fee.
The New York City Electroacoustic Music Festival will take place from April
2-4, 2009 at the City University of New York, The Graduate Center – 365
Fifth Avenue, New York, NY.
